Pro Feminists Analysis

Pro Feminists Analysis

Women have always been considered the weaker gender in society, with the majority of them facing various kinds of oppression, especially from their male counterparts. Because of their vulnerability, the majority of them failed to attain special education, which adversely affected their performance in society and were often sexually and physically abused both at work and in their homes. This was an everyday cultural norm, especially in the 1960s and the 70s, when women were treated as lesser humans with several rape cases, and violence against them reported each day. The response to these assaults triggered the formation of the various feminist movements, which was primarily focused on fighting the larger system and the violence against women (Ake & Arnold, 2017). Among the women, the indigenous women were more vulnerable compared to the rest, with most of them treated as slaves, mainly due to the slavery period. The feminist movements succeeded in attaining various reforms, including the violence against women act (1994), among others, which granted the women and opportunity for equal rights, including access to education. This saw women like Beth Brant, Lee Maracle, and several other female authors publishing books and journals which empowers the current female generation.

Despite the reduction in the rates of violence against women, several reports of similar cases are still recorded in the world today, especially on the indigenous women and girls with no proper responses noted. In 2009, for example, a female student was gang-raped multiple times in Richmond High school. The girl was just 16 years at that time and was on the verge of death when the rescue team arrived (Huffpost, 2017). A similar occurrence led to the death of Mollie Olgin, a 19-year-old who was sexually assaulted by a 25-year-old male before being murdered at Violet Andrews Park in Texas (Bradshaw, 2016). Such occurrences leave many young girls and women in fear thus should be adequately addressed from all available approaches.

According to hunt (2013). Containing the violence against women requires us to remodify our beliefs and build our collective strength rather than entirely depending on the powers of the state. We must combine our cultural history with teaching and raise the young girls as a community, show them love and respect in order to safeguard their rights and raise a wholesome generation of independent and knowledgeable women.
